Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is well known for it’s vivid depictions. It shows God as angry Punisher to those wicked sinful humans on earth. Using fear as a motivator he was quick to use metaphors and phrases in order to scar those listening. Edwards ultimate goal was to shock people into the hard reality of being a christian. They had to live their lives for God or be punished. Being put in a fearful state, he believed people would turn from their ways and reach for salvation. Being a Christian myself, I believe in Salvation through Christ alone. I beleive you have to be born again and live your life for the Glory of the lord to reach Salvation in Heaven. I am no Perfect christian, and like everyone, I fight my own battles, so I would be deeply affected by this sermon, and motivated to take charge and be better
Marks of a true conversion Begin with Mathew 18:3, ” I truly tell you, unless you change and become like little childeren, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. This sermon was meant to show to life long christians, good deeds and prayers while great, dont seal the deal. This was meant to ephasize the fact that all christians who wished to be saved need a strong Child like foundation in their faith with Christ. This sermon also affected me. Throughout your entire life your told to act your age, behave maturley and always take responibility. Whats interesting about this passage is, it tells Christians with their faith to do the oppitise. To me, it almost says “Just say thank you, instead of why?”\
These two sermons, definetly made me reflect my own faith. It’s clear repentance and living for g=God is the only way to salvation. Humbling yourself like a child is something not a lot of people could do, but it seems important, I am glad I read these sermons, their teachings will always be with me.
