English 12 lesson 40

“If you had been a member of the General Court, how would this sermon have influenced your politics? Why?”

After reading“Theopolis Americana: An Essay on the Golden Street of the Holy City” by Cotton Mather, I can confidently say that would have influenced my political views.

The Sermon was an in depth look into the Bible passages of the Book of Revelation. iT CONDEMNED CORPOARTE GREED AND MISDOing, and also took an attack stance on the misstreating of slaves. Although never condeomning slavery itself, it did discuss the horrors the Africans had to go through.

He talks about the European life, the conversion of Jews, and more on Judgment day and Gods will.

A larger discussion point of his was the Emphasis the moral duties the leaders had at the time. Honesty and compassion were important in order to have a fair and just society. Without Honesty your political duties become tainted. “Ethical Government” comes from Men who have good moral Charecter and a repsect towards everyone.

As stated earlier, He condemned the mistreating of the Slaves, however, what is important to mention is that he never condemns slavery itself.
