How important is the idea of covenant sanctions in the week’s readings
Sanctions are one of the biggest parts of the Bible. Without, there is no law. For example, God has sanctions over Adam and Eve. He tells them not to eat the fruit, and but they do. God Banishes them from the Garden and humanity is left to develop and fend for it self. Stories like these are important in the bible, as they are good lessons of Moral and character. Many of these sanctions include a covenant. A covenant is known more commonly as a deal. A deal between and omnipotent force and a person. The person will either serve the force, or follow the agreement, and in return the force will follow their part . Throughout the entire bible, their are many stories just like this.
As pointed out by others, A simple covenant is obedience. Obeying god is a covenant and something that can either be rewarded or punished. If a man preaches the word of the lord, than he wil be gifted with things to make his life easier. However, if a man lives in sin and refuses to obey the lord, than he will forever suffer the consequences.
Within the Bible, the prophets have been forced to break some earth laws to obey the lord. Jesus is an excellent example. There was a covenant between him and the father. He was to preach the true gospel and spread the real word of the lord. He didn’t care what happened to him because he was bringing glory to God. He was hung on a cross, and died for the sins of all those who wish to follow his teachings. He suffered because of the covenant.
Because of the sacrifice of Christ and his commitment to his covenant, Christianity has become the largest religion in the world. While their are many denominations, they worship Jesus as their savior who died for their sins. He stayed ritghoeus and did the right thing. In the end, there is a power in covenants and the power comes through the lord.
