The Real Lincoln report #3

Chapter 5 discusses America’s right to succeed from the Union. This means that when a state found it necessary they had the legal right to exit themselves from the United States. Chapter 5 discusses Lincolns personal views on succession and talks about how he didn’t believe in it. The book reads, “Lincolns insistence that no such right existed has no basis whatsoever in history or fact. He essentially created a new theory – the government created the states, and in that way are not sovereign.” What can be seen here is Lincoln had delusions of the government and the people. He simply thought that people would just give in to the government and they had no right to fight back.

Chapter 6 discusses Lincoln and his relationship with the Constitution. A document he quite often found in the way of his work. The author says ” Quite a few scholars have labeled Lincoln a ‘dictator’ for launching a military invasion with the consent of Congress; suspending habeus corpus; imprisoning thousands of northerners. that disagreed.”

Personal opinion:

Every time I open this book, the more and more I dislike Lincoln. From what I have read so far, he was a two faced lawless ruler who thought the government was sole power. He thought that the documents that founded the country were silly and got in the way. If he was Mr. Peacemaker and freedom fighter, then why did he invade the south and start the bloodiest war the US had seen at the time. He was nothing more than a puppet propelling an agenda that wanted to control the minds of the people, and never let them be free.
