What were the important components of Germany’s Economic Miracle?
After the second world war, Germany’s government was a complete disaster. They felt as if they had been left in the dust by the allies and the rest of the world. There were hard times for many German people. The population suffered, men and women lost their jobs, and hunger was on a steady rise.
As stated above, Germany was in a tough spot. People had to ration their food because of shortages, and the economy wasn’t doing much better. Because of the intense inflation that was suffered, people turned to cigarettes’ as a currency. There was much barter and trade, and Cigarettes became their dollar. Of course, the allies feared a revolt and revolution by the German people if they were to continue to struggle ands scrap. Two men solved this problem by implementing a new for of money called the Deutschemarks. The was the German currency. The men who created to Currency were named Lucious D Clay who governed an American portion of Germany, Ludwig Erhard was a German politician.
Because of the new placement of the German money system, the economy began to recover and grow stronger. Suddenly, food was on shelves, people were not starving anymore, and the economy began a steady march forward.
