Why did Boccaccio have the first story teller invoke God?”

Boccaccio was an Italian poet. He was born on 1313 and died later in 1375. During his life time, he wrote the poem Decameron. In fact, it is what he is most known for. while writing the poem, it takes place in Italy. Of course during this time, their was the black death. The black death was a rampant virus that went all through Europe killing much of the population. It spread quickly and killed the infected painfully. Those who didn’t get the black death were very lucky, although they lost everything. The black death was spread to through rodents. Many of the Rats at the time were infected with the virus, and they spread it much through Europe. It is now known that over 200 million people died to this virus. The only way the virus ended was through quarantine. People began not leaving their homes for anything. Those who had the many moved out into less populated areas and stayed their through much of the pandemic.

As stated previously, the story involves the black death. Within the poem, seven women and three men escape the city of Florence Italy. While away from their home they begin to tell stories. Each person tells one story per day. The man who told the first story began by stating that God is omnipotent. He is the creator of the Earth, and the ruler of all. The man then begins a tell tale about lying, mischief, and wrong doing. the Story begins with the man owing many to people. He then hires a crook. However the crook becomes violently ill. he seeks refuge in two very wealthy Italian brothers. They used their money and power to try to help him, however it was not working. In the last days of the Crooks life, the two brothers discussed if he was going to receive the sacraments of the last rites. The Crook heard this conversation and went to get the past rites. he called himself a holy man, he claimed that he prayed and loved God, even though he didn’t. After the crook had passed, pastors and priests began talking about him. They claimed him to be a saint, and a very good person.

The man continues his story saying that God knew he was wrong. He said that God knows all, and helps those who need help. He also said that people prayed for the crook alot. He said that so many people prayed that God heard these prayers. He also said that God always hears prayers. This invoked God. It was telling people what God would do. This is neither positive of negative, all it does is state that God Hears prayers from people, and always truly listens to them

To sum what has been stated, Boccaccio was a genius writer. He used words to express complex ideas and theories about life and death. He wrote about God and told the readers about God. while this was neither negative nor positive, it was educational for a lot of people. God Listens to prayers. He doesn’t hear prayers, he listens to prayers. God is full of loving compassion towards everyone.
