When reading much of Christian literature, its easy to become trapped wondering what is and isn’t right. One of these times is about the two documents. While some argue that these documents to not give insight into how Christians should live, others may argue that in fact it does argue on how Christians should live. While both of these arguments are valid, the Bible is still should be the prime guide on how Christians should live the lives. Sometimes a reader goes to deep into the messages they read. I recommend for every independent Christian article that it read, read a few chapters of scripture and see how you really feel. It is easy for people to believe things. Even though these to directly coincide with the Bible, they are both excellently written, and show insight and are a window into the world that once was.
As stated above, these two passages are wonderfully written. As I have mentioned before, writing in ancient texts is far superior to the writing of today. The vocabulary is diverse and colorful, and it is truly joyful to sit down and read these great works. The two passages in discussion are Song of Roland and Little Flowers. Both of these tales are based around two very different things. The little Flowers are based around the life of St. Francis. During much of the passage, it discusses how Francis lived his life. It explained that Francis was living in poverty trying to follow in the foot steps of Christ. It is easy for the reader to then think that to be holy, being poor is the only way. The books main theme was to live a righteous life for the lord, and be a holy man. While this sounds nice some of the themes in the book would be hard to follow for some people. For example, not many people would be happy to live in poverty.
The Song of Roland was tale of the Crusades. It discussed the Frankish Army, and the Christian Crusade against the Muslim people. Within the story, it discusses the wars and battles fought by Roland for Charlemagne. However, as many have pointed out, the stories were greatly exaggerated. This means while the base story might have had some facts, it was mostly a drama poem for entertainment. There is nothing wrong with this, in fact the exaggerations made to poems more interesting to read. But, it does not tell the reader to to live his or her life. Instead it just tells a story. As can be seen, there is nothing to copy from the poem/passage. It is just entertainment and should not be taken as a life guide for Christians.
These two passages are good examples of wat life was like back then. Any old text, book, or poem can be great in examining previous generations. Now in the days of the internet, they are just clicks away. The internet is a powerful to use for understanding. People’s internet back then were these writings. They read something and then thought that is how it should be. However, when sitting down and reading these passages carefully, it becomes clear, these were not meant to be life codes, and more of just entertainment. A life code a Christian should live by should be The Bible.
