Compare Paul’s concept of God’s sovereignty in Romans 9:1-23 with Justin’s concept of God’s sovereignty in Chapter XLIII: RESPONSIBILITY ASSERTED.”
While to the two talked of God very highly, their opinions verified. One thing that they both discussed was the Case of Sovereignty. God’s sovereignty. The age old debate over Gods sovereignty has been going on since the creation of Religion. What does God have power over. How will he use his power to enforce his laws. These questions have been asked since the birth of Christianity. When will God use his powers to enact the law. If the law has been broken, what happens. Not only does God have sovereignty over his people, he has cause and effect over them as well. If they cross a line, and cannot change for the better, they go to hell. For example, if somebody murders someone else, and does of regret it, they will go to hell.
Paul’s view of sovereignty Is seen in his letter written to the Collosians. He says that God will always be there. He claims that God is in everything. Throughout our daily lives God is there, so we should respect him and his laws. He says that his sovereignty could be observed through his prophets of people on Earth. He says that his promised people show how God’s sovereignty works. He shows that when his prophets make strides in their work, or loose a battle, it’s because of God and his power. Then he continued to say God is forever. He says that God was there at the beginning, he is still here in the middle, and he will be there in the end. God is everywhere and to not love and worship him would be foolish. Justin’s idea of Sovereignty comes from his letter to emperor Marcus. He is trying to persuade the king from the persecution that was happening to people of God. claimed that if he continues to persecute all of these people, he will have problems when he dies. He claims that what we do in these world affects what we do forever. He claims that while God does take care of those who follow and love him, he will punish those who go against his will and testament.
The two arguments are very similar. They both talk about effects of his behavior and God’s sovereignty. However they say it in two different ways, while both are equally as important. Paul talks about Gods sovereignty with happiness saying that when you love God and follow him, than God will take care of you and treat you nicely. Justin’s view is similar but different. He claims that when you go against Gods will, there will be actions that God will take. He says that we must be our best in this life, to be able to relish the next
To sum things up, Paul and Justin’s views of God’s sovereignty are similar in many ways. However the way the explain God’s sovereignty is not. One claims that when one follows God, God will love and treat that person nicely. The and the other one claims that if some one misbehaves in this life, they will be punished in death. Both of this show how powerful god is. It also shows the complexity of god. They explain that God has two side, a loving caring side, and a side for those who do not do wright by God.
