“Compare the ethical behavior of Zeus with the ethical teaching of Jesus.”
The Bible and classic literature are similar in many ways. They discuss the creation of the world. They talk about what happens when someone dies. They both even talk about religious figures and their power over people. An example of this in classic literature is Zeus. He was a god during the Ancient Greek times. The Bible talks about Jesus. These two were similar in a few areas. For example, they both had large amounts of power over people. They both were deeply connected to God or the top God’s. The two of them were very similar. However, there were many many differences. While Jesus was kind and compassionate to those who need his help, Zeus was cruel in punishments and a harsh ruler over the people of Greece. His behavior was not ethical.
As stated above, Zeus did not act ethically. Not many Gods in his time did. They were reckless and did not care about morals. Zeus acted on impulse. He was greedy and did not have patience. He was part of a bigger polytheist religion. This means that he was in power of many other Gods. He was the most powerful however. He was known to banish Gods whenever he felt like it. He also turned mortal men into Gods when ever he wanted. His compulsions took the best of him, and he acted on nothing more than Impulse. He was cruel and unjust, and his actions reflected that.
Jesus was much different. Jesus had a kind heart and cared for all people. He performed miracles and teachings that are still important in the world today. His teachings reflected this. He taught of kindness and love. He taught that to get into heaven, the heart had to be clean and ready. He showed that all people deserve a second chance in life. His heart was full for the people around him. Many political and religious figures stood against him at the time. They feared him because they would loose their power. They believed that he was dangerous to government as well. It is hard to compare the too as one is mythology and one is the biggest religion in the world. However as can be seen, Zeus was nothing like Jesus. While Jesus was full of love, Zeus was full of greed.
Zeus was hot headed and acted quickly. Jesus’s Teachings were universally different. He taught of kindness, compassion, respect, love and penitence, Nothing like Zeus did. Zeus did use his power occasionally for good, like punishing the bad, however most of the time Zeus was selfish. Jesus was and is the complete opposite. He believed people should act for others and never be selfish. As stated previously, Jesus and Zeus were similar in many ways. They both had power and respect of people. However, they behavior is universally different. While one is moral and kind, the other one was unmoral, harsh, and unpredictable.
