Biology 70

What are some of the challenges of systematics and taxonomy? Should a biologist’s classification be taken as absolute, inviolable truth? In your opinion, is taxonomy necessary and/or important? Why or why not?

Both of these fields require hard work and dedication towards their craft. Not only are these important to the scientific community, but also to the world. There discoveries and ideas shape the way of Human thinking. Classification is not only important to learning about the great blue planet, it is also important to discovering our past, Of course ,there are many challenges to both of these fields. Classifying organisms is not easy. Sex organs, vertebrates, eating habits. There are so many variations for the classifications, that is can become difficult to do that work. Another challenge would be how to classify these animals. Finding and tagging little and big creatures can be hard dangerous work. Not many people in the field of this study are going to be able to do it. Of course, the last struggle would be, people agreeing on what classification of what animal. The scientific community is a vast place of discussion and adding a new classification would be like throwing gas on fire. Systematics is just as challenging. Diversifying organisms can be just as difficult as everyone has to agree on it. If somebody discovers a new feline gene, then everyone has to agree that it is feline. Like wise to Taxonomy, finding these organisms can be half the struggle. I don’t think a biologist’s word should be taken as fact. As history has proven, everyone makes a mistake. If through constant research he is proven to be correct, then we should believe him. Until then, we should not take them at their word. I think Taxonomy is important because it helps us better understand the earth. It boils down to animal organization, and I think that could prove to be useful at any time. Having access to that could answer questions of future generations, and it is very important.
