Someone says, “Soil is just dirt to hold the plant up.” Would you agree or disagree with this statement? (Note: It is possible to do either one.) Back up your opinion with facts taken from the video lessons, readings, or other sources. Present at least one counter-argument and your own response to the counter-argument.

Soil is the life of the plant. Without soil, the plant would die. Some argue the fact that soil is just their to hold up the plant. However, I argue against this. Soil does do a great job of holding up the plant, but that is not it does. Soil feeds the plant. The plant gathers nutrients deep inside the soil, it the soil was not their, the plant would not be able to make it past the seed stage. Some have discussed the point that if the soil is so important, why cant the plant survive without it. Like some have pointed out, we need food, sleep and water, plants need soil, sun and air. Without food, we would die, without soil, they would die. Soil is the blood of plants. Soil is the single most important thing for plants. While soil may seem like just dirt, it is so much more, and without it, the plants in the world wouldn’t make it to next week.
