What would have been Orestes’ proper course of action, had he been living today? Why?
In the Book the Liberation Bearers, it is a continuation of the play Agamemnon written by Aeschylus in the Oresteia Trilogy. As stated, the plays are in three parts and this is the second one. All of these plays discuss themes that are typically thought of as dark and tragic. In the first of these plays, it discusses the Trojan war. This poem discusses the Trojan war much differently than many of the other works at the time. For example, when Homer wrote about it, he discussed it as a great success and a righteous war. The play Agamemnon took a different approach discussing how much was lost and the overall cost of the war. He discusses that the entire city of Troy was killed and burned to the ground. He discusses that the boats to carry the soldiers home were destroyed, most important the story of Agamemnon tells that Agamemnon himself sacrificed his daughter and was killed by his wife.
As stated previously, the story of Agamemnon discusses how Agamemnon himself was killed by his wife. The liberation Bearers takes place after the incident, in which, Oresteia is trying to revenge his fathers death and bring his mother into justice which she deserves. Within the text, he is urged by the god Apollo to end his mothers life and finally avenge his late father. He really doesn’t want to have to kill his mother, but he does. Ending her life, he takes the revenge for his fathers killing. He did what he thought was best at the time and place. Perhaps, the child did not have the right to murder someone, but he did. Of course, the mother deserved the punishment, as she ended her husbands life, and then continued to live in wealth and power. That is very wrong. However, if this were to take place in modern times, things would go much differently.
In the year 2022, the justice system would be much different, yet she would still be punished. If he were to find the body, he would obviously alert the authorities and begin the investigation. Oresteia would still continue to push for his mothers punishment and demise. He has little care for morals within the poem, so he would do the best of his ability to get the worst punishment possible for his mother. In the modern world today, many people let the law system do the work and lock his mother away. This would be the proper course of action, letting the law do it the right way. they would put her away with the proper evidence, and she would be punished for what she did.
Within the text, Liberation Bearers, Oresteia is seeking revenge for his father’s murder. He was pressured by the god Apollo to kill his mother, and he did so. In the modern world, he would have been sent to prison for doing so. In 2022, the smart thing to do would have been to call the police, and let them open an investigation on the murder and on his mother. He would have the modern justice system lock his mother away for a long time, and pay for her punishment. This would be the moral and ethical way to erect revenge for his father’s murder.
