  • What were Cardinal Richelieu’s primary aims? His two main goals were the centralization of power in France, and to oppose the Hapsburg Dynasty. At the time the Dynasty Ruled over Australia and Spain. At the time there were many small regions under their own rule, Which Richelieu Took down quickly.
  •  What factors contributed to the decline of Spain? The fall of Spain was brought down really by corruption. Before these bad rulers took over. Spain’s economy was strong and steady. However, when these kings had spread their influence throughout the country, the economy started to fall. Taxes were hiked up and rare metals were not being produced. Plagues struck and free market was abolished.
  •  What is constitutionalism? Discuss the views of Juan de Mariana. Constitutionalism is a government that is controlled by laws. There is more freedom for the people underneath the government. Things like taxes cannot be raised without consent from the people. Juan de Marina believed that a tyrant King could be killed by the people underneath his rule.
  • What do you think Hobbes’ main arguments are in the excerpts you read? Thomas Hobbes believed that everyone was the wrong doer of someone else. He believed that Human tendencies were Wrong. He believed in opening offices to keep the peace when needed.
