How were the ideas of Marsilius of Padua evident in Louis of Bavaria’s conflict with Pope John XXII? Marsilius strongly believed the church should’ve had less power than the state. He wanted church below state. He also strongly believed that the state could take advantage over the church, and use it to their advantage. He also wanted somebody higher than the pope, to restrict him, and keep control over him. Louis used these ideas and used them to fuel the conflict with him and the pope. He was later excommunicated, and those ideas were declared ridiculous by the pope
