  1. What are some of the qualities and strategies Machiavelli recommends to political leaders in the excerpts you read? How does this represent a break with the past? Machiavelli wrote a book in 1532. In this book, he gives clear descriptions of how leaders should act, and handle certain situations. He strongly believed leaders shouldn’t have to follow “Moral” codes. Rather they should focus on running the country the best they can. Before this writing, it was thought that the leader should act morally and just. This is a break from the past.
