  1. What kinds of developments occurred during the Renaissance of the twelfth century? The Renaissance of the twelfth century was very important, as it evolved society. One of the biggest of these events is the Crusades. The Crusades took place from 1095 to 1291. This is one of the most important wars and economic movements the world has seen. Latin poetry also had large growth throughout the 12th century, as it used used and studied much more. Aristotle’s amazing work was also beginning to be studied and appreciated at universities all over. Roman law also made a recovery. It retook place and untied the kingdoms all across Europe. Of course, this was great for the Roman rulers as they had more power over all the peoples of Europe.
  2. Write a brief overview of the life and work of Thomas Aquinas. Thomas Aquinas is a very important figure in philosophy and the Catholic religion. At a young age he was put in the University of Naples. When he eventually left the University, he deiced to be a Dominican. This was a religious order and practice by the Catholic Church. His family, however, did not like this or agree with his decision. So they held him hostage for over a year. When he was released,he still became a Dominican. He wrote many religious texts, and proved the existence of the Catholic God many times. By the end of his life he had written over 8 million words.
  3. Discuss the origins and features of the university system in the High Middle Ages. The origins of the university system are still very unclear and vague. However, they had many features. One feature is when a student would graduate they were awarded a degree. After they graduated however, students could go and teach any university. Like schools now, some schools were better than others. Some schools like in Paris were well known for theology. However the University System is still very advanced for it’s time and has influenced all types of education.
