What are some common misconceptions about the Crusades, and why are they incorrect?
Some of these misunderstandings are about the origins of the Crusades. Others are about the Crusades themselves. The first mis belief, and one of the biggest, is that the crusades were an unprovoked attack from the Christian army. Before the crusades started, The Muslims were taking and destroying much of the Christian and Jewish world. This caused the rise of Islam. With the rise, The Muslims became a larger, more violent group. The Christians pushed back and started the crusades. Another common misconception is the Children’s Crusade, or the idea of the children deciding to fight for the Holy land themselves. This never happened. Their is no historical evidence that the Children’s Crusade ever took place, or that children themselves were fighting for the Holy lands.
