lesson 60 history

How would you compare the teachings of Christianity, as described in the New Testament passages we read for this week, to the values cherished by earlier civilizations we have discussed (particularly the Greeks, and the values expressed in Homer’s works)? Conversely, can you see anything in common between Christianity and some of the great ancient thinkers we have discussed? The new testament and the old testament teach christianity in similar and different ways. They are similar in the fact that they talk of a messiah or a saver who will save the people from evil in this world. But they are different in the fact that the god in the new testament seems to be more kind than in the old testament. The books show this through stories and such. This can be seen with the old civilizations, with a fear of god. And out of that fear, there is respect for that god. But with the new testament, there is a love for god that has not been seen before. Christinnity and Greek philosophy are similar in the fact that they believe people should live their best life. Their is a common idea of living to be the best person you can be.
