“What are some memorable images from the narrative? Why are they memorable? Throughout reading the book so far, there are many images that stuck with me. From the images of race, there are many powerful messages within. These stories are so important because they hold the history of our country. Without these types of writings, the history of America would be very less formal, and misunderstood. These are also memorable, as they also show context into a certain time, with many topical subjects. These help the reader understand what that life was really like.
The first of the memorable images from reading this book was about race. When reading the book, is when Washington is put incharge of 75 indians. With this however, he has to get one of them attended. The book wrote about Washington sayings, they are of the same color, but the one difference is race. When they arrived, they were happy to attend him, but Washington was not. This is a memorable image. He is explaining here that it is about race, not color. He demonstrates his point with the story of taking an indian to get attended. Even though they had the same skin color, it did not matter, as they were concerned about race.
The second of the memorable events is when money problems are tight. More specifically the school he taught in had very poor maintenance. The roof was always leaking and the building was starting to crumble. However a new building opened up. A place where they used to keep slaves. It would cost $500 however, and that was money he or the students did not have. But the land owner agreed to let them be in that land, as long as the money was paid in 2 parts. The first part was $250 down. This was doable. They then would have to pay the rest of the money to him by the end of the year.
The 3rd and last of these images was when they had to make up the rest of the 250 dollars. This was a problem as the money was still tight, and they needed help. They got help from General J.F.B. He was going to make up the rest of the $250. However he could not transfer funds to the school, so he gave them directly to Washington. This was huge. This is memorable not only because of the amount of money, but the generosity. This is important because it shows how the U.S is evolving, and moving on from a dark time. With this donation he can now teach in a safe and comfortable environment and give the students a real education.
The Memorable Images are very important for insight and understanding. They show history that is not in the books of today’s times. They also give important lessons and morals that can be used in today’s times. The memorable images are very important, and should not be forgotten as time goes on.
