Jim Lehrer’s book, a Bus of My Own, holds many interesting stories. The stories are important because they have lessons of life that would be hard to find in any other book on the market today. And some of these stories stick better than others having connections to someone else life. And there is one story that stuck the best for me, being the time they didn’t have any brakes on the bus, back when his father had the bus company. To me this is one of the most important stories in the book, showing the most courage and determination from the main characters, Jim and the driver.
The most important story in the book is the when Jim and another driver loose brakes on a bus full of passengers one night. What this is so important in this story is the fact that they do not tell the passengers inside of the bus, they do not want to create panic so Jim and the driver pretended nothing was wrong. So instead the driver shows tremendous courage driving them to the destination with no brakes. This was a dangerous move. Not only could he physically hurt himself, but finically hurt the company if something were to go wrong, which probably would’ve if not for the skill of the driver. Instead, he uses the gears to down shift and hopefully stop the bus when needed. By doing this, it doesn’t always stop the bus but slows it down. There are several times when they almost do get in an accident because the bus cannot stop.
This story is tremendously important because of the danger involved. This is because where on man is brave enough to keep driving a vehicle with no brakes. He shows a lot of courage and determination, and with that he keeps everybody safe. However, at times he does bring them into danger, with not being able to stop the bus, he brings them into intersections. But all in all, he was able to get the passengers to where they were going some of the passengers were very grateful because of what he did, and others were very upset, once they found out.
The book, Bus of My Own is a very well written book with great morals from the stories. The stories are also very interesting and can hold a reader for hours on end. With that said, the book also has lots and lots of stories, showing who Jim, and what he wants to be in as he grows up. And the book also shows he he lived his life as an adult, and showed insight into that time, and also how to get by in life, even though of his many struggles including a heart attack Jim Lehrer Has written a very important book with good lessons.
