The benefits of the SI System (metric)

By Jackson Bristol

The benefits of the SI System or Metric is those of many, however only a few will be discussed. First off, and most importantly, the SI System is internationally excepted and well known. The USCS or “English” system is based completely from random measurements. For example, a foot is the length of a king’s foot. An inch is based of the width of the king’s thumb, making the measurements always changing. The SI System however is used internationally and has agreed upon lengths. Secondly the SI System is easier to calculate than the USCS System. For example, the SI System is Base 10, making calculations both simple and easy. Like said before the USCS is much more different. The USCS System is more random. The foot is 12 inches, however in a mile it is 5, 280 feet in a mile, so tremendous more calculation is needed. The last SI System benefit is the relationships between the units of the system. For example, 1 liter equals 1 cubic decimeter. In the USCS there is no relationship between the derived units mining it cannot do what the SI System can do. In conclusion the benefits of the SI System very much win over the USCS proving the SI System is both easier to use, and more well known around the world.
