The History of Abraham to Moses
By Jackson Bristol
In the bible there are many stories. Stories that teach us how to act, how to live. And in these stories, there messages about life that cannot be understood unless you truly believe what is written down. The stories are the word of God. These stories are for those who have faith and really do believe in the holy spirit. The bible is truly a blessing for those who need it, and for those that want to learn from it. Therefore, the bible must be understood.
While reading the bible there are stories about a man named Abraham. Abraham is special because he is spoken to by God. He is convinced that he must leave his home and travel west to a place called Caannan. In this trip Abraham must leave everything so he can become part of the Devine promises. When he left everything to his life Sarah, God promised them a son. This is special because Abraham’s wife Sarah was sterile, meaning she could not bear a child. However, nothing is impossible for God, and they gave birth to a Son named Isaac. One day God asked Abraham for a Sacrifice. Abraham had faith in God and devoted himself to him, so Abraham did as he wished. Right before Abraham was about kill his son, an Angel stopped Abraham and saved Isaac. Abraham had proved himself to God. God provided a calf to sacrifice instead.
Isaac did indeed marry, Rebekah, they had two sons, Jacob and Esau. There was a jealous relationship between these two brothers. Jacob always wanted to be the elder son, however, that was Esau. One day Esau was tremendously hungry, and Jacob saw this as an opportunity. He would give food to Esau if he sold Jacob his Birthright making him the eldest. And so, Esau agrees, and Jacob then becomes the eldest son. With Isaac close to giving his blessing to the eldest son, Jacob’s mother, Rebekah, deceives Isaac to try to convince Jacob is Esau. Now, Esau learns of this and becomes full of hate and rage. Esau then decides to kill Jacob; however, he flees before Esau has the chance.
Jacob now flees to his uncle Laban, he then falls in love with his daughter, Rachel. Therefore, Jacob and Laban create a deal where Jacob is to work for Laban for 7 years and Rachel is his. However, after Jacob has completed to 7 years, and he ends up marring Leah, Laban’s first daughter, by deceit of Laban. Jacob then works another 7 years and marries Rachel. Jacob ends up having 12 sons and one daughter. In this there is a son Joseph and a Son Benjamin, and Rachel dies giving birth to Benjamin. While this happens, Joseph is sold into slavery, being the most liked and loved.
Joseph then becomes #2 in the Pharaoh’s Authority. This is because Joseph, with God, can understand people’s dreams. One of the dreams that he interprets is that their will be 7 years of prosperity, and 7 years of hunger and famine. Because of this interpretation, the Pharaoh can prepare, and the famine is averted. Later God does help restore Joseph with is brothers and the family is healed. However, Joseph dies along with the Pharaoh. A new pharaoh comes to power not knowing of joseph and has enslaved the Jewish people. This now requires a new man to step and save the Jewish peoples of Egypt.
Moses is adopted by the Pharaoh’s Daughter and becomes part of that family. He is adopted because the pharaoh required solders to kill every first-born Jewish son. Moses’s Mother hid him and put him in the river, where then the daughter of the Pharaoh finds Moses. When Moses became older, he would visit the Jewish slaves working for the pharaoh. One day during his visits he sees and Egyptian overseer beating a slave and Moses kills them. However, because of this the Pharaoh wants to kill Moses and bring him down. Because of this Moses escapes, runs away, and becomes a Shepard. Later, Moses witnesses a burning bush that has not been consumed. There God speaks to Moses and tells him to go back to Egypt and free the Jewish people to bring them to Israel. When Moses returns, he demands the Pharaoh to let the Jewish people go, and Pharaoh refuses, and increases the work for the Jews. God then ruthlessly sends plagues after to the Egyptians, until the release control. When the Jewish people reach the red sea, the Egyptians have caught up and demand them to back. However, the sea then opens up, and lets the Jewish people through, and drowning the Egyptians. The Jewish people had the victory and were now free.
Like said before the bible is probably the most important book in the world for the information and teachings that it holds. The bible can show the good and the bad and let you decide which way you want to live your life.
